I'm Hakyung Jeong, an interdisciplinary designer and artist currently based in Düsseldorf, Germany. I'm Korean-American, born in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and spent much of my early childhood in the Middle East before moving to Atlanta, Georgia.

I hold a BFA in Textiles from the Rhode Island School of Design and an MA in Integrated Design from Hochschule Anhalt. My practice spans textile design as well as design research and creative direction consulting.

JEONG is my surname, and it’s also a uniquely Korean concept that expresses a complex and layered bond—one that can exist between people, places, and objects. Jeong is a powerful and multifaceted idea that highlights the importance of affection and human connection. It’s hard to translate directly, but it comes alive through experience. It arises from shared moments, mutual support, and a deep sense of belonging.

This idea grounds my creative practice. I’m drawn to the kinds of relationships and resonances that textiles can hold—emotional, tactile, and symbolic. Through my work, I try to bring jeong to life in material form: to design with intention and the potential for connection.

Through my designs, I aim to materialize color and narrative, using textiles as a medium for storytelling and connection. My work is rooted in emotional resonance, cross-cultural experiences, and the belief that textiles can hold memory, meaning, and movement. I strive to create pieces that not only function but feel—reflecting the warmth, curiosity, and celebration of life that inform my perspective.
