Quedlinburg

July 2, 2022. Quedlinburg

This is from the Quedlinberg Castle - a small and quaint town in northern Germany. From the elevated viewpoint, the entire town unfolded before me, with rows of houses cascading downwards. I observed how the roofs spilled onto neighboring balconies, and the uniformity of the red tile material blurred the boundaries of individual spaces; it was clear that even the little feline friends enjoyed this arrangement jumping from one roof to another. The harmonious blend of brick colors in the old German homes against the backdrop of the blue sky never seems to fail to captivate me.

In a book of Professor Yoo Hyun Joon, a korean architect and professor at Hongik Univ., I once read that people tend to gather to places where the they can walk where paths are not linear but rather curved and unclear. Likewise, the unaligned rooftops and winding paths, and the cobblestone allwys added an element of excitement as I passed through, never knowing what view would greet my eyes next.
